BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND CAPITAL CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE
Applications are now open for Austin Playhouse's Board and Capital Campaign Committee!
Austin Playhouse welcomes motivated community members to apply to join our Board of Directors and/or Capital Campaign Committee. The Board consists of individuals from many different backgrounds and experiences, invested in our goal of supporting and strengthening Austin Playhouse and its mission. Our Board is involved in making business decisions and fundraising for Austin Playhouse, so much of the work involves fact-finding and close collaboration with the staff and other Board members.
Board Members Expectations:

Serve at least one 2-year term

Attend 2-4 hours of board and committee meetings monthly (a majority of meetings will take place virutally)

Serve on 1-2 committees. Current committees include Capital Campaign, Board Recruitment, Community Building, and Special Events

Actively work to support and strengthen Austin Playhouse's future
Austin Playhouse welcomes applicants who would exclusively like to support the Capital Campaign. The Capital Campaign Committee leads efforts to secure funding for our permanent home: The Austin Playhouse Arts Center. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2025. More information can be found here.
VOLUNTEERS
FOH VOLUNTEER POSITIONS - Receive a complimentary ticket to the performance
Thursdays - Saturdays 8pm curtain, Sundays 2pm or 5pm curtain
Door Greeters
-Report to House Manager 1 hour before curtain
-Greet patrons as they arrive to venue
-Use key card to allow patrons into building and direct to theatre

Austin Playhouse is seeking non-Union local actors for the upcoming Theatre for Youth production of Carmela Full of Wishes adapted by Alvaro Saar Rios.

Actors must have daytime availability for the rehearsal and performance run. Rehearsals will begin the week of February 3, 2026. School performances will be March 3 - 6 and 10 - 12, 2026. Public performances will be Saturdays and Sundays, February 28 - March 15, 2026 at 1pm with additional 11am shows on February 28 and March 14. The play is directed by Mateo Hernandez.

ROLES TO BE CAST:
-Actor 1: Female identifying. Latine. 18-25. Plays CARMELA, seven years old. Our big-hearted, optimistic protagonist.
-Actor 2: Male Identifying. Latine. 18-25. Plays BIG BROTHER, ten to twelve years old (Carmela’s older brother).
-Actor 3: Female identifying. Latine. 30s-40s. Plays MAMI (Carmela's mother), as well as BEJEWELED GRANDMA, LA PALETA LADY, and BODEGA OWNER (various residents of CARMELA's neighborhood).
-Actor 4: Male identifying. Latine. 30s-40s. Plays PAPI (Carmela's father), as well as SEÑOR LOPEZ and FLOWER BOY (various residents of CARMELA's neighborhood).
All roles will be paid.

About the play: It’s Carmela’s birthday, and she’s finally old enough to accompany her big brother on his errands. On their way to the laundromat, Carmela finds a puffy white dandelion to blow, but her brother asks “Did you even make a wish?” Based on the book by Matt de la Peña, the play portrays Carmela’s migrant community as a vibrant place of possibility. Full of touching and funny fantasies, Carmela must decide what her deepest wish is and she must do it before her birthday is over.

Invited auditions will take place at Austin Playhouse on Tuesday, November 18 from 3-5pm and Wednesday, November 19 from 1-3pm. To request an audition slot, please fill out the Audition Request form by Sunday, November 16.
